F/A-18 Community Poll Results
In December 2021, a community poll was held to determine which variant of the McDonnell Douglas/Boeing F/A-18 would make its way to Infinite Flight in 2022. Over one week, community members threw in their votes, which amounted to a total vote count of 2,898. In comparison, the previous community poll which lead to the A330 being reworked amassed over 5,000 votes. In an upset victory, the F/A-18E Super Hornet won with 1,805 votes compared to the F/A-18C Legacy Hornet, with only 1,093 votes. On January 28th, community member and moderator Marc posted the first WIP image for the Super Hornet in the same thread used to announce the results.
"For this aircraft, our 3D artists have leveraged a technology that lets them build a grid of proportions. This will allow them to build the most accurate model based on control points by using a large number of photo references. Today, we're sharing an example of how this achieved from a side angle." - Infinite Flight

Feature Update 22.1
For Infinite Flight's first feature update of 2022, coming off what is, arguably, their most ambitious year of updates, expectations are nothing short of high. As of the time of writing, it has been revealed that Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport will receive a custom 3D model, Las Vegas Harry Reid and Pairs Charles de Gaulle will receive custom 3D towers, Innsbruck and Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International airports will be coming in 3D, 3D military structures will be added to applicable airports, and a new UPS livery will be coming to the 747-8 in 22.1. Additionally, it has been revealed that animated jet bridges are in development but it is unknown whether they will come to Infinite Flight in 22.1.
A Farewell to Former Community Manager MishaCamp
On May 15th, 2015, over six years ago, MishaCamp, more commonly referred to as Misha, joined the Infinite Flight Community. Since then, he has become one of the most prominent and influential users on the forum and held the position of Community Manager. He is known for his weekly Friday Night Flight topics, which have opened up the virtual world to Infinite Flight users.
Earlier this month, Misha left the Infinite Flight team for an undisclosed reason. He stated in a post on this topic, "This will be my last and final interaction for a while. I am very sad to no longer be with the team, but sometimes life throws things at you that you weren't expecting. That's okay, it's life, and if it happens to any of you make sure to kick on and grow from the experience! Make sure to be kind to the Infinite Flight team who remain. They put in more work behind the scenes than you can ever imagine, and they dedicate their time, money, and resources to keeping everyone entertained and happy. It's been an absolute delight being your community manager, and thanks for all the messages. I'll see you all in the skies!..."
From the team at the Monthly Recap, we thank Misha for his time and dedication put into the community forum and wish him all the best with his future ventures in life. Tailwinds!

This month, Turkish Airlines Virtual, an anticipated new virtual airline, launched operations and posted its thread to the community forum. This comes after a different virtual airline operating under the same name ceased operations in 2021. The Editor-in-Chief, Christian Church (nativetoalaska), was formerly the CEO of Turkish Airlines Virtual and is now the Social/Design Manager of the virtual airline.
This month, the 2022 Infinite Flight Screenshot Championship, hosted by last year's champion Airborne_Canuck and Flightistic is underway to determine a champion for this year. Over 30 community members signed up in December 2021, and it has now come down to only a handful, with community member Butter_Boi being crowned the Group A champion, with semi-finals in Group B concluding. This month, a staff live stream was held over YouTube, where developers shared work-in-progress images of multiple things including the new Embraer E175/E190, and provided insight to viewers of what's to come, and also answered questions from aforementioned viewers. To replay the stream, click here. To view an official article recapping the stream, click here. This month, ATC Community Manager and Staff member Tyler_Shelton posted his first Friday Night Flight topic in 2,190 days, as pointed out by community member Thunderbolt, following the departure of former Community Manager MishaCamp. |
